This module explores why it is important to conduct a needs assessment, the different types of data you can collect and provides an overview of some of the tools that you can use.
*Note that the module is short and is intended to provide an introduction to the topic. The key messages document that will be shared at the end of the session provides a summary of all of the key points as well as further learning you can undertake after the module, to deepen your understanding of new concepts.
Module aim
To explore the importance of conducting a needs assessment when setting up a humanitarian response.
Module Objectives
By the end of the session you will be able to:
- Explain the importance of undertaking a needs assessment at the start of the project cycle
- Describe the types of data you might want to collect to inform your work and describe how you can collect these data
- List tools to analyse collected data.
Course Structure
The module comprises a live facilitated session of 150 minutes’ duration. The module is a live session taking place on Zoom. Participate in discussions and activities in order to deepen their understanding of the concepts that are discussed. Participants will be offered opportunities to share relevant personal experiences and reflections to benefit their own and others' learning.
Who should attend?
This module is relevant for all who are working on humanitarian response in disaster contexts around the world - including disasters and conflicts in Afghanistan, Sudan, Ukraine, and Morocco.
This course is offered for free; on a first come first served basis. We will be creating a waiting list, so please email us at engineering.skills@redr.org.uk if the course is already full so we can keep you in mind if anybody drops out. Places on this course are prioritised for those working directly on humanitarian response. How to join?
The live online sessions are hosted on Zoom. We recommend joining via the Zoom app. Participants may join the training via a browser, although the browser offers limited access to some of the interactive features of the training. Participants will be expected to have a stable internet connection and to actively participate in all facilitated sessions.
If you complete registration and are no longer able to attend, please cancel your place through Eventbrite. This allows us to offer your place to someone else on the waitlist.
