Given the insecure and often rapidly changing environments in which aid agencies work in today, safety and security management is not an optional extra. It needs to be at the heart of humanitarian programmes.
At its highest level, safety and security training can save lives. It can allow staff to travel to reach people in need in areas that have previously been inaccessible. It can keep relief and development programmes running that would otherwise have closed. At the very least, it empowers aid workers to understand how to keep themselves safer and what to do in an emergency situation.
We have been running safety, security and risk management training since the mid-1990s. We have an excellent reputation in this area and run an extensive programme of courses both in the UK and overseas, using a team of skilled trainers and partner organisations. All our courses draw on our vast range of experience of working in insecure environments.
“As a security trainer it is important that I do my job well because when I work to a high standard then aid workers can do their jobs well – and that’s about saving lives. Being a trainer for RedR has given me the opportunity to train a wide variety of people in different environments and this experience benefits everyone.” Tanya Spencer, RedR trainer and member since 2002
