Patrons and corporate supporters of disaster relief charity, RedR, received thanks from the charity’s president HRH The Princess Royal at a reception held in their honor on Wednesday. The event took place at the Institution of Engineering and Technology and was well attended by representatives from a number of engineering and other firms.
The evening was a chance for RedR to thank existing Patrons and supporters for their continued commitment, while demonstrating to potential new supporters the benefits of becoming a Patron. New Patron certificates were presented to multidisciplinary consulting engineers Cundall and CH2M Hill, a global leader in engineering, procurement, construction, management and operations. They join over 20 other RedR patrons who provide regular on-going support to the charity. In a speech, HRH The Princess Royal highlighted the value of the regular annual donations given by Patrons to helping those who are affected by disaster.
Nigel Goodman, UK Water Director at CH2M HILL comments:
“As a company, CH2M HILL provides infrastructure services for clients in locations around the world. As engineers, our staff have the knowledge and responsibility to help build a better world. So when disaster strikes the communities where we live and work, we have the skills and desire to make a difference. By becoming a Patron of RedR, CH2M HILL are pledging our commitment to help to rebuild those lives hit by disaster.“
Becoming a RedR Patron also enables many companies to fulfil their corporate responsibility obligations. David Dryden, Managing Partner at Cundall, is delighted to form the new partnership with RedR:
“Our responsibility within the global community is very important to Cundall, in fact responsibility is one of our core values. We’ve been informally involved with RedR for the past two years, but decided to become a Patron as part of “Cundall Captivate” our responsibility strategy which was launched to staff in August. As an engineering consultancy it made sense to align ourselves with a charity where we can engage multilaterally by offering financial as well as practical assistance and expertise. Our growing international presence with offices not only in the UK but in China, Australia, the Middle East, and mainland Europe, means the fact that RedR is internationally focused is important to us too.”
In addition to the address by HRH The Princess Royal, speeches were also given by RedR’s Chief Executive Martin McCann, Andrew Cowell from RedR Patron MWH and RedR member Paul Jawor who spoke about his recent experiences of relief work following Cyclone Nargis in Myanmar (Burma).
