RedR supporters successfully complete London marathon

Four runners braved the rain and hail on Sunday 13 April to complete the 26.2 mile course and raise money for disaster relief training and recruitment charity RedR.

Jessica O’Sullivan, Malcolm Peake, Charlie Easmon and Fiona Cumming all successfully completed the race in under five hours15 mins.

Benaim runner and engineer Jessica O’Sullivan finished in a fantastic four hours 35 minutes and loved the whole experience:

“The crowd and atmosphere were fantastic.” She comments.

“They really spurred me on. People were cheering and handing out jelly babies, which give you a real burst of energy.  I found the 13-mile point quite hard-going but after that it was fine. The last two miles were electric!”

When asked if she would do it again: “Definitely. I’m also thinking of doing a triathlon next ”.

Unfortunately one runner, Karl Fitzgerald, had to pull out just before the event due to injury. He is now planning to run the Berlin marathon instead.

The rain couldn’t dampen the spirits of either runners or supporters and the crowds were out in force, cheering the runners on.

The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), one of RedR’s patrons, kindly allowed the RedR team use of their foyer and facilities, so runners could have a shower and relax with friends and family when they had finished.

Fundraising Development Manager Tom Colborne states:

“We are really proud of all our runners, they all did extremely well and the whole day was great fun. We are hoping that they will raise around £10,000”.

It’s still not too late! If you would like to make a donation to the runners, please contact Tom or call 020 7233 3116.
