Supporters run London Marathon for RedR

Five runners will be taking part in the Flora London Marathon on Sunday 13 April in support of RedR. The runners will face the 26.2 mile course around central London to raise funds for the disaster relief charity, which trains and recruits aid workers, enabling them to make a difference in disaster situations worldwide.

The runners include representatives from Benaim, ATLAS (Advisory Team for Large Applications), and The Number One Health Group. All RedR runners have been training hard for the event, with one structural engineer even going as far as training in Hong Kong while she was seconded there.

Chartered Civil Engineer and Engineering Specialist for ATLAS Karl FitzGerald is pleased to be able to support the charity: “I have been involved with RedR ever since I worked with colleagues in Ove Arup who were RedR supporters. I would have been keen to work overseas but family and work responsibilities made it difficult to make such a commitment.  This is why I am delighted to take the opportunity to run my first marathon to raise money and, hopefully, the profile of RedR.”

Malcolm Peake CEng MICE, Senior Civil Engineer Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers, believes in doing what he can to support the work of RedR: “I believe RedR stands out among other humanitarian charities as it provides a cross borders, cross-NGO partnership. I also like the fact that RedR stays and trains locals to manage projects; it's much better than simply solving problems and leaving.”

Fundraising Development Manager Tom Colborne comments: “with both Golden Bond runners and runners using their own ballot place we are hoping to raise around £10,000 from the event.“ He adds: “we would like thank our team of runners for their dedication and commitment and wish them all the best of luck”.

Runners will be sporting RedR Benaim-sponsored running vests and a number of RedR staff will be standing at the sidelines on the day to cheer the runners on. If you would like to make a donation to the runners, please contact Tom Colborne or call 020 7233 3116.
