Prepare to Respond- Hygiene Promotion

While being recognised as one of the most efficient ways to combat communicable diseases, hygiene promotion is regularly mentioned as the area of the water and sanitation (WatSan) sector with the biggest gap in skills and human resources.

This training will cover basic and some advanced aspects of hygiene promotion and thus raise humanitarian responders’ awareness about this important topic, both in the field, but also in the organisations’ headquarters.

Who should attend?

The course is directed at humanitarian and development personnel. No previous knowledge in hygiene promotion is necessary. However, it will be an asset if participants have already gained experience in water and sanitation projects.

By the end of the course participants will be able to:

•    Understand the concept hygiene promotion
•    Link hygiene promotion to other WatSan interventions
•    Reflect on the relation between soft- and hardware in the WatSan sector
•    Understand the basic methodologies used in hygiene promotion assessments
•    Demonstrate knowledge on the principles of behavior change models
•    Do a basic planning a hygiene promotion intervention
•    Demonstrate knowledge and practical experience of different promotion methods
•    Reflect on the gains and challenges of working with community-based promoters
•    Understand the principles of community involvement and mobilization

Course details:

The training will consist of a mix of practical exercises, lectures and interactive classroom sessions, covering different aspects of hygiene
promotion.

Registration Fee:

EUR 30* (EUR 10 per day): For individuals working in and organisations from the following countries: Albania, Bosnia Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Kosovo, Lithuania, Latvia, Macedonia, Malta, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Turkey. 

EUR 120* (EUR 40 per day): For individuals and organisations outside these countries.

The training is fully funded and includes all training materials and accommodation with full board (from the evening prior to the training until the morning after the training ends), however you will need to cover costs incurred travelling to and from the training.
