PMD Pro 1 is a five day introduction to project management in a humanitarian and development context. The course covers the basic concepts, terminology and tools of project management used by NGOs.

PMD ProPMD ProPMD Pro 1 is an introductory course during which you will develop an understanding of the principles and terminology of project management within the context of international development projects.

RedR is authorised to deliver the PMD Pro programme through registration with LINGOs, a consortium of over 55 international humanitarian relief, development, conservation and health organisations.

Please note that the guide and examination for this course are available online and can be completed without classroom instruction. It is RedR’s experience that in-person participation in interactive courses greatly enhances comprehension of the material via peer discussion, group work and dynamic course leadership. 

An Introduction to RedR Training

Who should attend?

Project managers who are new to project management, new to the humanitarian or international development sector.

The course is offered in English. The examination can be taken in English, Portuguese, Spanish or French.

What does the course cover?

  • Projects and the project life cycle including why projects fail
  • Project identification and design including an overview of needs assessment, stakeholder analysis, problem and objective trees and log frames
  • Project initiation
  • Project planning including work breakdown structures, network analysis and GANTT charts
  • Project implementation including RACI and HR plans
  • Project monitoring, evaluation and control including M&E plans, SMART indicators and change plans
  • End of project transition

By the end of the course you will be able to: 

  • State the major roles and responsibilities of the project manager throughout the project life cycle
  • State the relationships between the phases and deliverables of the project life cycle
  • State the major sector–specific contextual factors that are unique to the work of project teams in the international development and humanitarian sectors

The assessment

The course is assessed by a one hour, closed-book multiple choice exam which is completed on-line. The on-line examination aims to measure candidates’ knowledge of project management in the context of the international development sector. The PMD Pro qualifications are linked in with PRINCE qualifications.

Registration will take place from 8.45 am on the first day, following which each day will run from 9 am and conclude at 5 pm.
