 RedR UK in affiliation with CHA is pleased to introduce a learning workshop on an introduction to Health and Hygiene Promotion in Emergencies. The course will be held in Tamil Medium.

Suitable for:

Field officers and health promoters involved in projects related to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion (WASH) in north and eastern districts of Sri Lanka. It is particularly appropriate for staff members of the organisations belonging to the WASH cluster.

Course covers:

This introductory course aims at developing a basic understanding among the field level actors about issues in health and hygiene promotion in emergency situation and exploring the ways to deal with them at the community level. 

Topics covered in the three day workshop will include the following:

·            Public health terms and definitions

·            Introduction to Public Health in Emergencies

·            Introduction to Cluster Approach to WASH

·            Hygiene Promotion in emergencies

·            Public health Assessment

·            Gender and age sensitivity in HHP interventions

·            Introduction to Behaviour Change Communication and its application and IEC

·            Introduction to PHAST & CHAST approaches

·            Application of Sphere Min Standards in Water sanitation and health.

·            Promoting participation and accountability in HHP programme

Course outcomes:

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

·         Understand Health and Hygiene Promotion concepts in a disaster and post disaster situation

·         Understand the application of Sphere Standards and other tools to assess, design and implement health & hygiene promotion interventions during emergency

·         Understand and apply appropriate methods and tools in health and hygiene promotion interventions

·         Be familiar with different approaches such as Participatory Hygiene and Sanitation Transformation (PHAST) & CHAST
