Field Logistics in Emergencies - LIMITED PLACES REMAINING

This RedR course has been approved by the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport (CILT) to provide appropriate logistics training for the humanitarian sector. RedR facilitators with a range of training and humanitarian logistics experience will be conducting the course, alongside instructors from HELP; CILT’s Humanitarian & Emergency Logistics Professionals.

This is an introductory course so all those interested in professional Humanitarian Logistics should apply.
Course covers:

The course will provide participants with an overview of logistics systems, their relevance in humanitarian programmes and an understanding of the principles and practice of humanitarian supply chains.

This is a very participatory course, with group exercises and hands-on activities. An extended simulation exercise allows participants to test the theory, their own experience and their project teams’ ideas in a challenging and changing environment. 

 

Registration will take place on Sunday evening between 18.00 hrs and 21.00 hrs. Training will begin on Monday morning at 09.00 hrs and end by 16.00 on Friday.

Course outcomes:

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the key principles and components of the humanitarian supply chain network
  • Understand the key factors to be considered in the establishment of logistics infrastructure
  • Specify procedures and requirements for the effective and accountable operation of logistics services and infrastructure, including primary and field warehouses
  • Plan an effective process for  distribution of commodities to beneficiaries
  • Define the principles of fleet management and transport planning.
  • Appreciate factors to be considered in the installation, maintenance and operation of communication systems commonly used in humanitarian programmes (HF, VHF, Satellite)
  • Recognise the challenges of maintaining security in difficult circumstances
  • Plan, monitor and control logistics budgets in accordance with donor regulations
  • Use management tools to have an overview of the logistics system

 

Cost:
The fees are inclusive of accommodation, food and training from the evening of registration to the last afternoon of training. Participants are responsible for their own travel to and from the venue.
