Suitable for:
Programme development officers, managers, project coordinators, monitors, donors' staff members who are involved and have some experience in disaster risk management and future disaster preparedness initiatives. Applicants from government agencies and local NGOs will be given priority.
Course covers:
The aim of this course is to enhance skills, knowledge and expertise of humanitarian relief and development practitioners in preparing the communities to face the future disasters; improve their effectiveness in future community based disaster management and helping them to link the disasters with development in a sustainable manner.
Course outcomes:
By the end of this course participants will be able to:
- Examine various aspects on disaster management
- Design and conduct community based disaster risk assessments
- Identify measures for hazard & vulnerability reduction & community capacity building
- Prepare a risk reduction plan & how to integrate it in development activities
- Integrate the disaster risk considerations into sustainable development approaches
- Provide specific inputs for disaster management planning initiatives
Cost:
LSCB Programme of RedR UK in affiliation with CHA has introduced three bands fee structures to encourage poorly resourced local government and NGO staff member to apply for the course. A. LKR 20,000 B. LKR 45,000 C. LKR 60,000 Fee Band: Band-A - Staff members of local & national NGOs, local government officials, CBOs and other Sri Lankan charity organizations Band-B - Staff members of international NGOs, charity organizations with headquarters outside Sri Lanka, Red Cross societies (PNS), UN Humanitarian agencies Band-C - Staff members from intergovernmental agencies, diplomatic representations, bilateral development agencies, donor agencies, commercial organizations This is a residential workshop and fee includes accommodation, course materials, lunch and refreshment during the workshop. This fee is subsidized with funding support from BIG LOTTERY FUND, Oxfam GB (OGB).
