This five-day intensive course will enable participants to identify the key requirements for managing security in complex emergencies and conflict zones by practicing essential techniques in risk management, security assessment and crisis response. The course draws on extensive field case studies, the current humanitarian environment and the security management practices used by humanitarian bodies internationally.
The Certificate is competency based and focused on skills that you can demonstrate. Credits can be transferred to the Masters in Development and Emergency Practice (DEP) from Oxford Brookes University or other similar postgraduate qualifications.

This course is suitable for anyone working in emergencies in complex environments. Especially staff who are or will be security focal points or managing security within their organisation. It also targets those who have project/programme management roles in the field or HQ. We can only accept applications from US citizens, those who are from countries eligible for the US Visa Waiver Programme or those who already have a valid visa for entry into the US.

The content of the course is aligned to the National Occupational Standards (UK) in Security Management as well as the InterAction Minimum Operating Security Standards and builds on the ECHO Security Training Modules.
The course is credit-rated by Oxford Brookes University. Successful completion gives masters level credits which can be transferred to the Masters in Development and Emergency Practice (DEP) at Oxford Brookes or other similar postgraduate qualifications. The course has a value of 10 level M credits within Oxford Brookes University Credit Accumulation and Transfer Scheme.
