There is an option to receive certification for this course and earn credits that can be transferred to the Masters in Development and Emergency Practice (DEP) from Oxford Brookes University or other similar postgraduate qualifications. This entails additional assessment on the course and a post-course assignment. Prices also vary for this option so please see below.
If you do not opt for the credit-rated certified route then the course you qualify for will be Essentials of Humanitarian Practice.

Suitable for:
Anyone entering or already working in the humanitarian sector. This course will be of particular interest to staff from humanitarian aid organisations and individuals looking to work in the sector where we can help advise on possible career paths. We welcome people from all professional backgrounds and disciplines.
Course covers:
This course aims to introduce the underlying principles of the humanitarian sector and the realities of working in emergencies.
We examine the humanitarian and relief systems, accountability and international law, needs assessment, mainstreaming gender, culture and security and the impacts and dilemmas of relief work.
Participants engage in a combination of individual and group activities, culminating in an exercise focusing on planning and managing a relief response.
Essentials of Humanitarian Practice has been credit rated by Oxford Brookes University and is equivalent to 10 M-level credits. Credits can be transferred to the Masters in Development and Emergency Practice (DEP) at Oxford Brookes or other similar postgraduate qualifications.
Course outcomes:
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
• Describe the characteristics of natural disasters and complex emergencies
• Describe the roles and relationships of organisations in the international relief system
• Explain the relevance of international legal instruments to humanitarian workers
• Apply techniques and approaches that increase individual responsibility in humanitarian work
• Recognise your own knowledge and skills and identify further development needs
Cost:
The fees are inclusive of all training materials, morning and afternoon break and lunch. Participants will be responsible for arranging their own travel to and from the venue, and accommodation if required.

UK training price bands
Band A: Staff from national and local NGOs in developing countries, full-time students & unemployed.
Band B: Staff from charities, agencies and NGOs with an annual income of less than £1 million, & employed individuals funding themselves.
Band C: Staff from charities, agencies and NGOs with an annual income of more than £1 million.
Band D: Staff from commercial and governmental organisations.
If you are paying Band A fee, please send in proof of unemployment or student status with your application.
