The Cluster approach is designed to promote better coordination of humanitarian activities following a disaster. It was introduced in 2005 following the Asian Tsunami to improve the predictability, timeliness and effectiveness of response to humanitarian crises.
The cluster system is a way of coordinating the response of all organisations involved in an emergency in 11 identified sector areas including; Emergency Shelter, Logistics, Health, and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH).
We are involved with a number of different Clusters and recent initiatives include:
RedR’s extensive training experience and specialised recruitment system enables us to draw on a wealth of expertise from our extensive pool of members and training consultants to provide first-rate support to the UN Cluster approach.

"I learnt a lot from listening to experienced WASH Cluster Coordinators. The challenges of the WASH Cluster Coordinator role were widely discussed and because of this I knew what to expect when I got to Zimbabwe - and was able to better carry out my work,"
Souleymane Sow, WASH Cluster Coordinator, responding to the cholera crisis in Zimbabwe.
