Director, Europe and Global Initiatives Programme

The Role 

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented and energetic Director to take leadership of our Europe and Global Initiatives (E&GI) Programmes Department.  As a key member of the International Programmes team, you will be reporting to the international Programs Director, and lead and motivate your team to continue the delivery of high quality programmes as well as leading the development of further country programmes. You will deliver a high standard of financial management to meet donor requirements and represent RedR at relevant Humanitarian forums, developing networks across the sector.  

Person specification


  • Degree level qualification or equivalent, preferably in a relevant subject e.g. international development, political science, or a similar humanitarian/development related field 
  • At least 8 years’ experience in humanitarian operations including, including at least 5 years’ management experience in a humanitarian or international development setting including at least 2 years’ humanitarian field experience. Ideally this would include training experience in a previous role.
  • Knowledge of Learning and Development methodologies with substantial direct experience of design and implementation of a broad range of learning initiatives and activities. 
  • Excellent project and programme management skills, including experience in context, problem and log frame analysis and of managing a large and complex programme.
  • Excellent skills in budget preparation, monitoring and financial management procedures.
  • Proven experience in sourcing and securing donor funding ideally including previous experience of working with DFID, ECHO and USAID.
  • Sensitivity to cultural differences and the ability to adapt to different contexts.
  • Experience of managing a multi-tier team and creating a results-orientated environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to influence across the organisation and externally.
  • Confidence and ability to represent RedR externally including public speaking as necessary.
  • An enterprising, creative, goal-orientated and can-do-attitude.
  • Ability and willingness to travel internationally, sometimes to difficult/insecure locations.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English
  • Computer literate with good MS Office Skills.


  • Fluency in another language (eg Spanish, Arabic, French)
