Dr Tim Healing is a clinical scientist. Trained in clinical microbiology and epidemiology, he started work in the humanitarian field in 1992, and has been involved with communicable disease control in conflicts and disasters ever since.
Area of interest
During his career, Tim has worked mainly with WHO and Merlin. He has specialised in the establishment of disease surveillance systems and in the investigation of disease outbreaks. He is also involved in the rehabilitation of clinical laboratories and the re-establishment of laboratory diagnostic programmes. He has a particular interest in providing safe water in disasters, and it is this – as well as his laboratory work - which has brought him into close contact with engineers and has led to his interest in the role of engineering in public health.
