"It’s all very new - which means that training needs are extensive, and span a whole range of skill sets." In January 2016, Katie travelled to Myanmar to determine how RedR might address these needs.
"I spent ten days meeting with NGOs, NGO networks and donor organisations, all of which displayed a strong interest in what RedR does," she says. "In the coming months, we plan to establish a pool of local trainers, help develop their skills through training, coaching and mentoring, and conduct context-specific open training sessions in Yangon, the capital city; and in Rakhine State.
All of this will build on the work we've already done in the country. In 2015, we conducted two courses, training 90 aid workers in project and people management. Both these courses took place in Rakhine State, which is facing a chronic humanitarian crisis.
We believe RedR can make a real contribution at this crucial time of transition in Myanmar."
