Arabic-speaking aid workers can now take 'Remote Security Management' training on online training platform Mission Ready.

The course uses gaming technology to teach NGO workers how to effectively bridge the distance between headquarters, regional and field offices in order to manage organisational security.

Launched in August 2016 in English, the UK Department of International Development (DFID) provided RedR extra support to make RSM available in Arabic.

RedR Programme Manager Kate Denman said: "Making this course accessible in Arabic was a top priority for us.

The use of remote management is prevalent among organisations responding to protracted crises within Arabic-speaking world - including Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Libya - and many staff working on the ground are unable to attend formal, classroom-based training.

It is critical to ensure we mitigate risks and reduce the vulnerability of key staff in the humanitarian response meaning people must have accessible and effective security training."

140 Mission Ready licences are being issued to Syrian Community-Based Organisations (CBOs) in partnership with DisasterReady and the Investing in Syrian Humanitarian Action programme this summer.

The 'Remote Security Management' course introduces learners to a range of tools to manage security remotely at each phase of project - from design to closure.

They are then transported, through video-simulation technology, to the war-torn nation of Zabadin - a fictional Middle Eastern country - to respond to a cholera outbreak with the fictional NGO Health Emergency International.

Faced with a series of dilemmas, learners must apply their newly-acquired knowledge to take tough security decisions under time pressure and in coordination with team-mates in headquarters and field offices.
