By passing on their wisdom and experiences through effective training techniques, humanitarian aid workers can extend the impact of their work to future projects and generations. Trainers in the humanitarian sector ensure aid workers are equipped with the skills and knowledge they require to deliver successful humanitarian programmes.
This five-day CPD Accredited course combines theory and practice to help you understand the fundamentals of training and facilitation and develop competencies to aid you in becoming a more effective trainer.
You will learn from experience, observation, and feedback in highly participatory activities. The skills you learn during the course will immediately be put into practice and developed as you plan and deliver your own short training sessions.

By the end of the course you will be able to:
State the principles of adult learning and apply them to designing and running a training course
List the stages of the training cycle and the key activities that need to happen at each stage
Adopt a learner-centred approach when designing and delivering training
Write aims and objectives for training sessions and courses
Demonstrate a range of training skills and techniques
Describe the role of a facilitator and ways to work creatively and constructively with groups
Select appropriate activities, materials and resources for training people in humanitarian work
Devise tools and techniques for assessing training needs and for evaluating training
Registration will take place from 9.00 am on the first day. Training each day will run from 9.00 am and conclude at 5.30 pm, except for the last day, which ends at 4.30 pm.
Each day is broken up into four sessions, separated by a lunch break and tea/coffee breaks in the morning and afternoon. From the second day, each training day begins with a review of the topics covered the previous day to ensure that the concepts, tools, and frameworks are fully understood. Each day ends with a period of reflection, evaluation, and questions.
Participants will be actively encouraged to take part in classroom discussions, group work and a case study. The trainers will draw on both theoretical and practical knowledge in order to make the experience and learning applicable to the realities of training.
After you have registered on the morning of the first day, the course begins with an introduction to the course. The course will begin with a discussion of how adults learn and an immediate application with individual training practice sessions. The course will cover the training cycle in the last session of the day.
The first morning session will focus on identifying learning needs and then will move on to training objectives and key learning points. Training in the humanitarian context will be discussed prior to lunch. In the afternoon, you will learn about training techniques and designing training.
On the morning of the third day, you will prepare and give presentations on training design. You will also have a chance to develop your skills in providing feedback. After lunch, the course will take time for a group energiser to stimulate learning before concluding the presentations. You will then share your experiences and what you have learned in small groups, following which will be time to prepare for practice sessions the following day.
Day four begins with teaching you how to make learning easy. The remainder of the day will be spent on training practice and feedback, with time for a group energiser in the middle. The day will conclude with participants sharing their experiences and what they have learned in small groups.
On the last day, the course will discuss evaluating training in the first morning session. Participants will learn about managing groups in the period preceding lunch. The afternoon session will consist of a lesson on action planning, review, and evaluation before the course concludes at 4 pm.

Who should attend?
This course presumes no previous humanitarian knowledge or experience, but the focus of the curriculum is training within a humanitarian scenario. Training of Trainers for the Humanitarian Sector is aimed at humanitarian and development personnel and consultants who are involved in planning or delivering training.
Participants will likely fall into one of three groups: people who have never trained before but foresee that they will in the future; those who have previously done some training but are seeking to enhance their lessons through more structure and a better understanding of training methodologies to enhance their lessons; experienced trainers who are looking for a refresher cours or add the latest teaching methodologies and practices to their toolbox.
Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
The minimum age for this event is 18.
What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?
The nearest service is Vauxhall Station (Victoria line), approximately 5 minutes' walk. Oval or Kennington Stations (Northern Line) are approximately 10 minutes’ walk. Buses 2 /3 / 36 / 44 / 59 /77 / 88 / 159/ 185 / 196/ 322 / 344 stop nearby.
What's the refund policy?
-For bookings cancelled two or more weeks before a course, administrative charges will apply. Applicants will be entitled to a refund of 85% of the course fees paid, or if places are available will be offered a transfer of 90% of the course fees paid onto the next instance of the course.
-For bookings cancelled one to ten working days* before a course begins, 25% of the course fee will be refunded (*during normal UK working days, Monday-Friday and working hours 9am-5pm).
-For bookings cancelled less than 24 hours (working days only) before a course, or after a course has started, no refund will provided.
-If the applicant chooses to transfer to another course and then cancels their booking a second time, neither a further transfer nor a refund will be offered.
-The refund must be claimed within two months from the cancelled course start date.
-Please note that unfortunately we are only able to cover our local bank charges and not the recipient’s bank charges when we make refunds.
-Refunds may take up to 30 days.
