ABOUT THE COURSE
The Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS) are a set of voluntary standards which resulted from a collaboration between several agencies and are now an accepted and widely-utilize tool to improve accountability and transparency in humanitarian response.
This 2-day course will provide a comprehensive understanding of the CHS and its practical applications as well as highlighting the roles, responsibilities, and commitments of the humanitarian actors responding to emergencies. It will also explore challenges to use and enable participants to develop the capacity of their organizations to implement the CHS.
By the end of the course you will:
- List the nine commitments of the Core Humanitarian Standard and explain how each contributes to the delivery of a quality humanitarian response
- Give examples of good practice drawn from their own experience, from other participants and more widely from the sector
- Act as advocates and peer leaders on the importance of quality, accountability and good people management in humanitarian action
- Facilitate introductory training on Core Humanitarian Standard within and or beyond their organizations
Registration is from 0800h, with the course starting at 0830h and concluding by 1700h. The day is broken up into four sessions, separated by a lunch break and coffee/ tea breaks in the morning and afternoon.
Participants will be actively encouraged to participate in classroom discussions and group work. The trainer will draw on both theoretical and practical knowledge in order to make the experience and learning applicable to the realities of the humanitarian sector.
