RedR Football Tournament

On Sunday 4 June RedR held its annual fundraising Football Tournament.

The tournament brought together over 60 budding footballers to Shepherd’s Bush, London, to battle out their wits, skills and stamina to win the coveted RedR trophy. Although 11 teams started the day, by the end only one remained victorious

RedR corporate partners and Patron firms, including BuroHappold, WSP, and Atkins all fought hard in the Group stage, tackling, shooting and dribbling across the pitches. RedR staff also fielded a team, although they were knocked out after the group stage, stumbling at the first hurdle.

Teams were tiring during the Quarter Finals, but held out knowing their football pride was at stake. Amongst mega tackles and one injury the Arup stronghold cracked when two of their three teams were ruthlessly knocked out before the semis.

Only four teams remained: Elliott Wood, Mott MacDonald, Arup and (for one night only) a Costain-Skanska-Atkins hybrid team (known as the One Direction of the footballing world).

By 3pm the sun had disappeared, clouds were brewing, and the gathered crowds were going wild in anticipation for the final. Mott MacDonald faced reigning champions Elliott Wood in an exciting 7 goal thriller, with the challengers, Mott MacDonald finally taking the title at 5 goals to 2. Congratulations to Mott MacDonald, who were heroically captained on the day by James Hodder!

After the tournament, teams joined RedR staff at the pub nearby to celebrate and drown sorrows. Congratulations also go to raffle winner, Jamie from BuroHappold who won a magnum of red wine.

Thanks to everyone who took part, and supported our work in the process.
