Develop your understanding of earthquake debris management through a focus on health, hazards and the ways in which you can manage them

RedR UK is offering a free-of-charge, innovative, high-quality online training course aiming to provide structural engineers in Syria and Türkiye the tools, skills, and knowledge to better understand debris management after an earthquake.

This module defines the importance of proper earthquake debris management, explaining the different structural and non-structural debris that can occur and the various hazards it can present. The module also provides the opportunity to develop and implement earthquake management plans, showing the most effective ways to do this in relation to the hazards that can be presented.

The facilitated module uses participatory methods and it is expected that learners will participate in discussions and activities in order to deepen their understanding of the concepts that are discussed. Participants will be offered opportunities to share relevant personal experiences and reflections to benefit their own and others' learning.

Module Aim

To support engineers, shelter and construction professions in Syria and Türkiye to perform debris management to buildings in the aftermath of the 2023 earthquake.

Module Objectives

After completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the importance of proper earthquake debris management
  • Identify types of earthquakes structural and non-structural debris and associated hazards
  • Develop and implement effective earthquake debris management plans
  • Explain the effect of climate change and other environmental issues on debris management

Course Structure

The module comprises one live facilitated sessions, of 120 minutes duration.

Participants will be required to watch a short video and complete pre-reading prior to the live session.

The live online sessions are hosted on Zoom. We recommend joining via the Zoom app. Participants may join the training via a browser, although the browser offers limited access to some of the interactive features of the training. Participants will be expected to have a stable internet connection and to actively participate in all facilitated sessions.
