Training aims to introduce gender equality standards and how to apply these in the humanitarian context in Ukraine

Gender equality in the humanitarian sector in Ukraine
This three-session training on gender equality in the humanitarian sector is a capacity-building training for local NGOs/WLOs staff to increase their knowledge and expertise for a more efficient and gender sensitive response in Ukraine.
Course Structure
1. Humanitarian ethics and principles in practice (120 min +15min break)
2. Accountability to affected populations (120 min + 15min break)
3. Working with IASC gender standards in Ukraine (180 min +20min break)
Total learning time: 7 hours
Each participant should attend all 3 sessions to pass the training.
Course Сontent
Session 1: Humanitarian Ethics and Principles in Practice
The aim of this course is to familiarize participants with the guiding principles of humanitarian practice and the ethical challenges associated with promoting gender-sensitive and gender equality programming in response to the humanitarian crisis due to the war at the territory of Ukraine.
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
- Identify some of the ethical issues affecting humanitarian response in relation togender sensitive/gender equality programming.
- Describe some of the different factors that influence ethical, gender sensitive decision making in humanitarian response.
- Reflect on the impact of your own personal ethics and how these may affect your decisions in the current context of the Ukraine humanitarian crisis response.
- List the four humanitarian principles and explain their meaning and how they relate to gender equality.
- Explain the importance of applying the four humanitarian principles in the provision of gender sensitive humanitarian assistance in the context of the Ukraine humanitarian crisis response.
- Explain the principle of 'do no harm' in providing humanitarian assistance in the context of the Ukraine humanitarian crisis response.
Session 2: Accountability to Affected Populations
The aim of this session is to support participants to implement actions that increase their accountability to affected populations in their work in response to the humanitarian crisis due to the war at the territory of Ukraine.
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
- Describe some of the key considerations and attributes of accountability to affected populations (AAP), specifically with regards to accountability to women and girls, marginalized groups including people with disabilities, older persons, and LGBTI groups + discriminated groups (Roma, women living with HIV, sex work/trade persons).
- Explain what community participation means regarding people’s right to be involved in the decision-making processes that affect them and inform programming.
- Analyse the possible barriers to participation for women, girls, and marginalized groups in the context of the Ukraine humanitarian crisis response.
- Assess potential actions to encourage community participation from women, girls, and marginalized groups in their current response to the Ukraine humanitarian crisis.
- Describe how effective communication can support accountability to affected populations.
- Describe what feedback and response mechanisms are and how they can support accountability to affected populations.
- Identify actions that they and their organization can take to improve their information sharing and establish or strengthen feedback and response mechanisms in their current response to the Ukraine humanitarian crisis
Session 3: Working with IASC gender standards
This session aims to help the participants learn how to navigate the IASC Gender Handbook, among other humanitarian policies and guidelines, and apply these to given, including their own, contexts in their work as part of the Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis Response.
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
- Navigate the IASC Gender Handbook and reflect on its value, relevance, and applicability.
- Explain how to prioritize and apply standards that need addressing in their work.
- Describe the Gender and Age Marker and how to use it.
- Recognize aspects of humanitarian programming that comply with Gender and Age Marker key standards.
Who should attend?
WLO/WROs and local actors new to the humanitarian sector who have recently shifted focus to humanitarian work in Ukraine
How to Join?
If you would like to attend, please register through Eventbrite. You will receive instructions on how to join the course after registration.
Please remember that each participant should attend all 3 sessions to pass the training.
The live online sessions are hosted on Zoom. We recommend joining via the Zoom app. Participants may join the training via a browser, although the browser offers limited access to some of the interactive features of the training. Participants will be expected to have a stable internet connection and to actively participate in all facilitated sessions.
What is the language of the training?
All sessions will be delivered in the Ukrainian language

Цей три-сесійний тренінг з ґендерної рівності в гуманітарному секторі є тренінгом з розбудови потенціалу для співробітників місцевих NGO/WLO в Україні з метою підвищення їхніх знань та досвіду для більш ефективного та ґендерно-чутливого реагування в Україні.
Структура курсу
1. Гуманітарна етика та принципи на практиці (120 хв + 15 хв перерва)

3. Робота з гендерними стандартами МПК в Україні (180 хв + 20 хв перерва)
Загальний час навчання: 7 годин
Кожен учасник повинен відвідати всі 3 сесії, щоб пройти тренінг.
Контент курсу
***Сесія 1: Гуманітарна етика та принципи на практиці
Мета сесії: ознайомити учасників з керівними принципами гуманітарної практики та етичними викликами, пов'язаними з просуванням ґендерно-чутливих програм та програм ґендерної рівності у відповідь на гуманітарну кризу, спричинену війною на території України.
Наприкінці сесії учасники зможуть:
- Визначати деякі етичні питання, що впливають на гуманітарне реагування у зв'язку з гендерно-чутливими програмами та програмами гендерної рівності.
- Описати деякі з різних факторів, що впливають на прийняття етичних, ґендерно чутливих рішень під час гуманітарного реагування.
- Поміркувати про вплив вашої особистої етики і про те, як вона може впливати на ваші рішення в нинішньому контексті реагування на гуманітарну кризу в Україні.
- Перелічити чотири гуманітарні принципи, поясніть їхнє значення і те, як вони пов'язані з ґендерною рівністю.
- Пояснити важливість застосування чотирьох гуманітарних принципів при наданні ґендерно-чутливої гуманітарної допомоги в контексті реагування на гуманітарну кризу в Україні.
- Пояснити принцип "не нашкодь" при наданні гуманітарної допомоги в контексті реагування на гуманітарну кризу в Україні.
***Сесія 2: Підзвітність перед постраждалим населенням
Мета цієї сесії - підтримати учасників у впровадженні заходів, які підвищують їхню підзвітність перед постраждалим населенням у їхній роботі з реагування на гуманітарну кризу, спричинену війною в Україні.
Наприкінці сесії учасники зможуть:
- Описати деякі ключові міркування та атрибути підзвітності перед постраждалими групами населення (ПГН), зокрема, щодо підзвітності перед жінками та дівчатами, маргіналізованими групами, включаючи людей з інвалідністю, людей похилого віку та ЛГБТІ-групи + дискриміновані групи (роми, жінки, які живуть з ВІЛ, секс-працівники/працівниці комерційного сексу).
- Пояснити, що означає участь громади в контексті права людей бути залученими до процесів прийняття рішень, які впливають на них та формують програми.
- Проаналізувати можливі бар'єри для участі жінок, дівчат та маргіналізованих груп у контексті реагування на гуманітарну кризу в Україні.
- Оцінити потенційні заходи для заохочення участі жінок, дівчат і маргіналізованих груп у поточному реагуванні на гуманітарну кризу в Україні.
- Описати, як ефективна комунікація може сприяти підвищенню підзвітності перед постраждалим населенням.
- Описати, що таке механізми зворотного зв'язку та реагування і як вони можуть сприяти підвищенню підзвітності перед постраждалим населенням.
- Визначити дії, які вони та їхні організації можуть вжити для покращення обміну інформацією та створення або посилення механізмів зворотного зв'язку та реагування в рамках поточного реагування на гуманітарну кризу в Україні.
***Сесія 3: Робота з гендерними стандартами МПК
Ця сесія має на меті допомогти учасникам навчитися орієнтуватися в Гендерному посібнику МПК, серед інших гуманітарних політик і керівних принципів, і застосовувати їх до заданих, у тому числі власних, контекстів у своїй роботі в рамках реагування на гуманітарну кризу в Україні.
Наприкінці сесії учасники зможуть:
- Орієнтуватися в Гендерному посібнику МПК та розмірковувати про його цінність, актуальність та застосовність.
- Пояснити, як визначати пріоритети та застосовувати стандарти, які потребують уваги у своїй роботі.
- Описати гендерний та віковий маркер та як його використовувати.
- Розпізнавати аспекти гуманітарних програм, які відповідають ключовим стандартам ґендерно-вікового маркера.
Хто може взяти участь?
Представники очолюваних жінками організацій (WLO) та НУО, які є новачками в гуманітарному секторі, але нещодавно переключили свою увагу на гуманітарну роботу в Україні.
Цей курс пропонується безкоштовно, в порядку черги. Ми створимо список очікування, щоб ми могли запросити жл участі, якщо з’явиться вільне місце.
