Staying Effective (Safety, Security and Wellbeing) (Libya floods) - English

This module examines some basic components to staying effective when working in response to the 2023 Libya floods humanitarian crisis.

Understand the importance of focusing on staying effective in emergencies

RedR UK is offering a free-of-charge, innovative, high-quality online training course designed to provide technical responders of all disciplines in Libya (however all emergency responders are more than welcome) with an understanding of the strategies and approaches for understanding how to stay effective in humanitarian response, including the importance of safety, security and wellbeing.

The facilitated module uses participatory methods and it is expected that learners will participate in discussions and activities in to to deepen their understanding of the concepts that are discussed. Participants will be offered opportunities to share relevant personal experiences and reflections to benefit their own and others' learning.

Part 1 of the module provides a foundation for understanding basic personal security, including assessing your own behaviour and risk profile, developing situational awareness, and conducting rapid, dynamic risk assessments.

Part 2 of the module examines basic techniques to remain effective, including techniques to manage stress and remain effective during the crisis.

Module aim

To support participants to remain effective in their work as part of the Libya floods response.

Module Objectives

  • Describe situational awareness and explain its usefulness for security
  • Explain how to conduct a dynamic risk assessment and assess sources of information
  • Identify signs and symptoms of mental ill-health and list possible solutions
  • Identify basic components for personal effectiveness and staying healthy

Course Structure

The module comprises three live facilitated sessions, each 60 minutes duration

Who should attend?

The module is aimed at those responding to the Libya floods humanitarian crisis, however, anyone working on emergency response is welcome and will find most of the learnings can be applied to their local context.

This course is offered for free; on a first come first served basis. We will be creating a waiting list, so please email us if the course is already full so we can keep you in mind if anybody drops out.

How to join?

The live online sessions are hosted on Zoom. We recommend joining via the Zoom app. Participants may join the training via a browser, although the browser offers limited access to some of the interactive features of the training. Participants will be expected to have a stable internet connection and to actively participate in all facilitated sessions.

If you complete registration and are no longer able to attend, please cancel your place through Eventbrite. This allows us to offer your place to someone else on the wait list.
