This online course combines theory and practice to equip experienced trainers with the skills needed to design or adapt training workshops for facilitated online delivery.

This "Facilitation Skills for Online Training" course aims to build the competencies needed to design/adapt and deliver online facilitated training using participatory methodologies. You will explore online tools and methodologies to enhance your existing experience. You will apply your learning from the course to plan, prepare and deliver your own short training session, receiving feedback from your facilitator and other experienced peers.

You will experience first-hand the potential that facilitated online training can offer, adding to your existing toolkit of techniques and activities. The skills you learn during the course will immediately be put into practice and developed as you plan, prepare and deliver your own short training session.

This course is composed of four live sessions, with individual and small group work assigned between live sessions.

What does the course cover?

By the end of the training, participants will be able to:

  • Identify key principles that inform the design and delivery of facilitated online training;
  • Design a facilitated online training session that uses a variety of participatory methods ;
  • Demonstrate facilitation skills that help to create a positive and inclusive learning environment online;
  • State ways to prevent, manage or mitigate challenges associated with online training and facilitation;
  • Draw on and share existing knowledge, skills and experience.

Course Structure

This course is a blended "Facilitation Skills for Online Training" learning programme comprising the following:

  • Preparatory, self-guided pre-course study (1h)
  • 4 modules, each an online facilitated session of 3.5 hours plus up to 2 hours of asynchronous collaborative and/or solo work in between the facilitated sessions.

Total: 21 hours

The programme will be run over the two-week period, between the 23rd November and 3rd December 2021. Facilitated sessions will be delivered on Tuesdays & Fridays to allow time for collaborative working and self-study, starting at 08:30 GMT (UK time). The participants will be split into two groups for the third module(30th November); with one session starting 08:30 GMT and another one at 13:30 GMT.

Where is it hosted?

The live online sessions are hosted on Zoom. We recommend joining via the Zoom app. Participants may join the training via a browser, although the browser offers limited access to some of the interactive features of the training. Participants will be expected to have a stable internet connection and to actively participate in all facilitated sessions. Participants will receive instructions on how to join the course after registration.

Who should attend?

This course is aimed at experienced trainers, who are familiar with adult learning principles and the training cycle and have designed and delivered trainings in the past. The course is aimed at strengthening, trainers’ skills in planning and delivering specifically online trainings.

The focus of the curriculum is training within a humanitarian scenario.

HPass Badge

Upon completion of the course participants will be eligible to apply for a HPass Badge, a digital indicator of achievement, and a way for participants to demonstrate their skills and experience in the humanitarian sector. You can find more information on HPass Badges here.

How much does the course cost?

• Standard Individual - £320 (for those funding themselves)

• Standard Organisation - £537 (for those being funded by an organisation)
